A Few of my Favorites Things

Every Saturday morning, I usually get up very early and read, make my grocery list and just get started on my day. It makes my weekend last longer. This morning, I am feeling very thankful for who I am and all the blessings God has given me. Over the years I have grown, become a little wiser, seen my greatest hearts desire come true and continue each day to feel very blessed by his presence in my life. I really do enjoy the simple things and want to give you a quick peek of things that really make me smile!

I have a thing for hot homemade bread pudding! The kind with a whole stick of butter in it. I have experiemented for about a year to get this just right!

This is my favorite room in the my house. I love my kitchen! I put on some music, drag out my kitchenaid and get to work, baking and making all of the goodies I have in my mind for the weekend. Did you know that I collect old cookbooks? Love them! There are always such great recipes in an old church cookbook. Women only submitted the very best!

I love my backyard when it snows! I love the white crisp look of a blanket of fresh snow coating everything in sight. This only lasts for just a bit, afterall I do live in Texas!

I love it when I get a new Williams Sonoma pan, I just want to bake a cake everytime. This one is called Elvis Presley favorite pound cake. There is a gob of butter in this one. But very yummy!

I also love my backyard in the spring, it is one of my favorite times of the year. It is a time when we can really be outdoors, cook and eat outside before it gets too hot. After late June this is almost impossible due to the heat. The flowers start to look pretty bad about late July and that is when Im glad I planted lantana. It loves the heat and can grow in near desert conditions.

I really love that my son in law came over from Ireland and made my daughter so happy! He is a musician and we love to have cookouts and listen to him sing and play! His parents are such great people and we cant wait for another visit. Allan's dad is a musician and even better than his son.

Oh, this is my favorite place in the world! Disneyworld is fantastic! Yep, I cant wait for another visit. I can just stand in the middle of main street and take it all in. Its the happiest place in the world.

I love this little super guy! Logan has taught me that you can never and I do mean never turn your back on him for a second. My kitchen is his favorite room too! He has to drag out all of the pots and pans. Gets a spoon and pretends they are drums. I think he gets this from his Irish ancestors.

This is my favorite thing to just relax and spend the day with my best friend in the world. I never thought I would be a biker chic! Just goes to show you that we never know what life will bring us down the road!

Happy Valentine's Day!

I hope you are having a great week. Tomorrow is Valentine's Day! I have many reasons to love this day. First of all, my youngest son was born on Feb 14th! He will be 18 years old tomorrow! I simply cannot believe that time has past so quickly. Phillip came into my life at 2 years old, he was found riding a trike late one night alone. Social services quickly came to the rescue and around 1 am, they called me to ask if we would take another foster child. He was quite the challenge, he couldnt talk..was starved.. and his parents were drug users. I will never forget how he looked when he arrived that night. Weighing about 17lbs, he looked like a refuge. Filthy and clothed only in a mens t-shirt, he was terrified and let us know it very loudly! After many months of working with him, he learned to talk, gained weight and became a normal little boy. 3 years later he was placed for adoption. There was no way he was going anywhere! He had such a hold on our hearts and we brought him home forever. He has been a wonderful child and it so very sweet and respectful! He has fears to this day, one of them that he might not make it to dinner on time, but everyday he improves and has grown into a wonderful young man. I cannot tell you how very proud of him that I am!

My second reason for loving Valentines day is that my daughter owns a florist and this is her busiest time of the year! Every mother wants her child to prosper and it is such a wonderful thing to know she does so well! I am also very glad I now have a full time job and cannot be there for the event. I used to go and help her out every year! It is just too stressful...LOL!!!

My third reason is that I have a wonderful husband! He took me out to dinner Saturday night and we enjoyed such a nice candlelit dinner, music and fun. Donnie is such a dear man and I am so lucky he came into my life. We are working on our 4th year of marriage and I couldnt be happier.

My 4th reason is that Downton Abbey is now on DVD!!!! If you havent seen this series run to your nearest Target and buy it! My youngest daughter introduced me to this last year and what can I say we are seriously addicted! Right now it is on PBS on Sunday evenings, now into the second series it is a great Emmy award winning show. You will love it!!!!!

My First Dresden Plate!

This is my very first attempt at a Dresden plate and I am just loving it! I have been saving all of my scraps from previous projects with no idea what to do with them. After reading and admiring all of the beautiful plates that are being posted in blogland, I just decided to try it. The scraps I used were 2 1/2 inches and the finished projected is exactly 7 inches across .I know its not perfect, but just had to show you my first scrappy plate! Hope you have a great weekend and bundle up. We are in for some cold weather! Its supposed to be in the 30's here in Texas!...LOL..I know many of you experience those temps everyday. But we come from a place that shuts down schools with a snow flurry! You can just imagine how many wrecks we have with bad weather,no one knows how to drive in snow or ice! But this summer we will be melting with temps soaring into the triple digits!

Here are a couple of cute pictures of my little men. Logan is trying on his daddys irish cap.

There is a story behind this photo. Logan rushed over to comfort baby brother when he was crying. He took his binky out of his mouth and put it in Jensens little mouth. Jensen stopped crying, started sucking on it, just about the time Logan realized he had just gave away his pacifer! He took it back and when the baby started to cry he patted him on the head and said "awwwww, awwwww" But he was not giving it away, no matter what. Some things are just not meant to be shared!

Speaking of sharing, I am now at liberty to show you my new grandbaby on the way! We have no idea what it is yet, but could make out little arms and legs. Jennifer is so excited, this will be her first. She is hoping for a little girl and since this is the last shot so am I. With four grandsons we need a little girl to keep them in line around here. New baby will be due sometime in September. Unfortunantly, that is also the height of Jennifer's busy season at work, but we will figure it out. I always thought that June was the busiest Bride month. Seems that here in Texas September and October are the main choices.

New Gadgets and a Giveaway!

I spent the day Saturday at a quilt show in Jefferson, Texas. This was the very first show I have ever attended and the quilts were amazing! I am always in awe of the fabulous work that women can create. Each one was a work of art and very inspiring. My new grandaughter got a new sewing box, which we promptly used to make a new pillowcase!

She was tickled about sewing her own case this weekend, but is still abit young to use my machine. I am currently searching EBay for a small one she can use.

I picked up a few finds for myself from one of the vendors. The magic quilt wand, has a groove in the center and a perfect way to pencil your sewing lines when making half quarter triangles. I know it will help my finished project look better. I also got a tool called the Tucker Trimmer. This little item is amazing for a new quilter like myself. I was able to trim my completed blocks to a perfect 6 inches with just a few swipes of the rotary cutter. This tool comes with directions to use it when cutting out fabric to make perfect blocks. I haven't had time to try it out yet, but cant wait to use it next weekend.

Many thanks for all of the wonderful tips and advise I have been getting from my blogger friends. I have a small giveaway this week. One charm pack of Little Apples by Moda. I am in love with all things Moda and just feel like the quality of the fabric is wonderful. I've Learned Two New Things

I posted about starting a Farmer's Wife Quilt a few weeks ago and have completed a whopping 7 blocks! Through this experience I have determined 2 things. Number one, I hate working with itty bitty pieces of fabric. It makes me crazy and it's very frustrating to work with. Number two, I may not be cut out to be a Farmer's Wife. I love the patterns and I love the look of a sampler quilt. I just wish the blocks finished a bit larger! At this rate, the farm may be years in the making! In the meantime, Im going to cut out another quilt to work on today! Have a good Saturday.

Grandson is Here!

Jensen Nicholas Clark McEneaney has arrived from heaven. He weighs in at 7lbs 3 oz, has blonde hair, his mothers lips and daddys nose. He is a healthy little boy and looks just like his big brother! Congratulations to my beautiful daughter who did fantastic! My wonderful son in law who was right by her side. Pauline and Paddy in Ireland, we miss you! Wish you were here for this beautiful event.

Using some Stash!

I love working with charm packs! They are such a time saver for me and I love the fact I do not have to waste fabric. I finally decided to use some of my Ruby stash on this cute little baby quilt. A friend at work found out Friday she was having a little girl and I have been dying to make a sweet little quilt! I am using a pattern I found on Moda bakeshop, it was such a simple quilt to sew together and I love that!

This is the back of the quilt. The pattern I was using showed the flower on the front of the quilt, but I thought It would look better on the back. Ruby is such a great line of fabrics and have several more ideas in mind. I also started my Farmers Wife quilt Sunday and will be using some Ruby on it as well.

I planned to have this little jewel quilted Sunday afternoon, but I was so busy with other things I ran out of time. My new grandson will be making his arrival tomorrow, so not sure how much sewing time I will get in this weekend. His big brother will need looking after. School starts Monday and with 12 hours this semester, plus a full time job....my sewing time will be limited for a few months. Hoping to finish this and make some time for a few blocks each week to finish my Farmer quilt. I am also practicing free motion quilting on my new machine. Looks like I have a really busy year ahead!

Farmer's Wife

As you can see we have several farmers in this family! Today, I recieved my copy of the Farmer's Wife quilt. I cant wait to get started on it. I have been following several blogs who are making this quilt and very inspired by the different color ways that have been chosen. I have alot of Ruby on hand, so think I will use that and then possibly a fall color scheme as well. I know this will be a year long project and plan to take my time. I also will be signing up for the Dear Jane BOM. This is at least a 2 year project, but such a work of art to create. Currently I am working on a really cute baby quilt for a co-worker, she is expecting a baby girl soon. Was so happy to make a girl quilt for a change. I have had a rash of boys lately! Have a great Sunday and enjoy the day!

Road Trip!

I am up early this morning ! My daughter and I are taking a little trip to Quitman,Texas today to visit Stitchen Heaven! I have been looking forward to this trip all week long. I didnt want to drive that far by myself, so daughter #1 said she would go with me. Cant wait to look at all the wonderful kits and BOM programs. And Moda!!! And any other little notion I can find that I need. I know I should stay home and practice on my free motion quilting, but this might be the only chance I have to travel for a while with a new baby on the way! Have a great Saturday, I have to put on my stitching boots!

Logans New Quilt!

I am a little behind on my New Year projects! My goal was to have this finished before today.

I got up early and started the binding this morning. I just love this little quilt. I made it with Moda Hometown fabric. The backing is the barbershop dots, I thought it needed the extra bit of color.

My applique is not the best since I am still in the learning process, but very happy with the results.

Merry Christmas...The List is Here!

Santa approved the List this morning. Its now printed and on the fridge. One or two made the naughty list with one year probation to improve! I am baking today and wrapping a few presents that I forgot about. But overall it should be a quite day. All the family will be here in the morning and we will celebrate Christmas. I am very happy with all of the progress that was made on the gifts. Everyone will recieve a handmade item as we are trying to stay with the Made In America theme! Of course, fabric is probably made in China, but it was assembled here!

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We have much to be thankful for in our family. We have added 4 new members since last year, and if Kristy doesnt slow down Jenson may arrive anytime. I bought him a gift just in case he decides to make it in time for Christmas. We are keeping his big brother Logan for a while this afternoon, so his mama can get a bit of rest.

My sewing year didnt begin until this past oct after my knee surgery, I was stuck at home and going crazy, My plan was to make one quilt for my husband it snowballed into a quilt for all of our children plus a new baby quilt, I took stock of my stash and really had to add a lot to it to be useable

My old Singer broke down during this time so I replaced it with a Horizen 7700 Janome. So far it is a wonderful machine, My goal is to do free motion on the machine this year. I cant wait to apply this knowledge and be able to fininsh my own quilts1

This gumdrop quilt was the first one tht I did and I really like it well.

I made an carpenters star and plan to sew a little pillow from it

I started on this cute little pirate quilt for my grandson, He will just love it

Jensens baby quilt is finished as of today. Its washed and ready to bring him in the world Kristy is very happy with it

I made a total of 3 all wrapped upquilts. They were fun and festive and easy to finish

I also made 3 pinwheel quilts. Everything is quilted and washed, wrapped and under the tree. I made one more that never made it the quilter so didnt count it, I made another pinwheel that is white and red for my husband, All have been quilted except the pirate quilt. For a grand total of 9 completed quilts in 9 weeks! I am very happy with my process and now that I have finished, Im searching pattern books for a couple of baby quilts to work on.

Finishing Christmas!

I still have so much left to do. There are gifts to wrap, gifts to buy and I still have bindings on 2 quilts to finish.

We finished decorating the tree with the exception of the topper. My daughter has been so busy she has not had time to tie one for me. I bought some new ornaments this year to go with the large pepermint stick ornaments that I bought on clearance after Christmas last year.

Some of the lights have burned out, so probably need to buy a new tree this year when they go on sale! I love the new look on the tree this year. The previous trees have been so formal and I think this one is great fun! Have a happy day!

Almost Finished

This has been a whirlwind 2 months. First, having my knee surgery and therapy 3 times a week. And the big quilt project. This started off with me making one quilt for my husband. Just something to keep me busy during my recovery time. It exploded into making a quilt for all 7 of our children. yep, 8 quilts,8weeks! I do beleive the sewing machine pedal aided in my therapy plan. As most of you know, my machine was not functioning properly and caused major issues. I was having a meltdown at least once a day! Spending hours ripping out seams and basically so frustrated that I could not enjoy the whole quilt making process. I kicked it to the curb and went out and bought a new(used) machine. I am so happy with it, it sews like a dream, has so many stitches and most of all I can learn to free motion quilt with it. That is one of my goals this new year. I have signed up for the free motion quilting tutorials that begin in January. I am more of a watch and learn person, so I hope I can benefit from it without the aid of someone standing behind me guiding me along. I have worked very hard at building a new stash. My old stash was very depleted and I had given away much of it to my mother during the years I was in nursing school. I almost feel like a new seamstress. New machine,new fabric, I even went all out and bought a new sewing basket to organize my things with. Its been about 3 years since I made my last quilt. The quilt shown is one that I recently finished. I had bought the jelly roll planning to make my new grandaughter a beautiful quilt. Well, when she turned out to be a little boy (oops!), I had to alter my plans. I still had this lovely fabric and watned to use it up. So this one will go to my oldest daughter for Christmas. I wanted you to notice the binding. I used all the scrap pieces to bind it and just love it. This was one of the first I made after surgery and I had many mistakes cutting the squares. It was hard for me to stand up for very long and my cuts were so far off. I had to salvage the fabric somehow. I still have some left and it will go into my scrap pile for a charm quilt someday.

I still have a few bindings to sew, which I plan to do today. I need to get them wrapped, check them off the list and make sure no one was left out. My son in law wanted me to make his mum a quilt for Christmas, so one of them was shipped to Ireland this week. That left me one short and I still need to piece another to replace it. I am so tired of Christmas fabrics, but just one more to go and I can put them away for the year. I have 2 quilt kits that I will start in the new year. I have never participated in a BOM and would like to, but may wait on this since I also want to make a Farmers Wife quilt. I need to order the book and will probably wait until after the holidays. Christmas Pinwheel Quilt

I have finally finished all of the pinwheel quilts and all wrapped up quilts. Hopefully the kids will like them and I can get back to some serious sewing for me. My first quilt is going to be using the pattern Swoon. And I also saw the cutest little sailboat quilt on another blog. I am trying to find a pattern for that one also.

But, today I am headed back to the surgeon. There is a little knot that came up under my incision. So, we are sure that it is probably a piece of stitch that didnt get removed. Im am supposed to be there at 11 am and it is a 2 hour drive, so we are leaving a bit early to avoid rush traffic.

I kept this little darling this past Saturday because he was sick and couldnt go to daycare. Well, guess what?? Now I have come down with it and am miserable! I try to be a good patient but it is so hard. I tend to do exactly what I am not suppose to do. I am just praying I am better by the weekend. There is so much I still need to do in the baking and sewing department! I really need to grocery shop this weekend as well. One of the advantages of sitting around in your jammers all day is that I have visited so many new blogs out in blogland. I love looking through all the new and creative ideas this time of year. Building My Stash

I have almost finished my Christmas sewing for the kids this year and have been doing a little extra fabric shopping for me.

I cant wait to cut into this Ruby fabric. I have been searching patterns looking for the perfect one to use this great fabric. It has been so long since I have really been able to sew that my stash was very low. It has been fun building it back up again.

This is a picture of the back of the new baby's quilt. It will be reversible and I liked being able to jazz up the back a bit. Hope y'all are having a great weekend. I am pooped. Decorating is done and I have been baking cookies all day. I think I may just go take a little nap, before I go cook dinner. Have a great week.

A Visit With Santa Claus

Logan made his second visit to Santa this year. His first was when he was only a few months old. We were a little worried, that he might not like Santa. His papa Donnie has the full white beard and mustache also, so Logan kept looking at him and back to his mama. We are not sure if he thought he was sitting in Papa's lap or not. Anyway, he did just fine. The gentleman you see in the picture, plays Santa all year long. You will see him in the mall during the summer always dressed in red and very cheerful. The beard and mustache are the real deal! Nothing fake about this Santa. Children just stare in awe of him. What a great job he has, making kids and adults alike smile! Would be such an awesome thing to go about making people feel good all year long!

New Sewing Machine!

Santa Claus came a little early for me this year! I went to my local Singer dealer yesterday to look at a machine that was advertised in my local paper. It had already sold, but the gentleman there showed me this Janome 7700. It was purchased in March by a little lady and she traded it back in on Monday for an embroidery machine. WEll, of course it was brand new, no scratches, in fact most of the accessories were still in the original plastic. I went back home to do a quick research as I knew nothing about this machine. I got on ebay and looked at used prices etc. By lunchtime, I was heading back to the store to buy this beautiful machine. It came with the acrylic table insert, but after I got there he also sold me the custom table that it was sitting in for little of nothing. I found out that it retails at $3000.00 and the table costs$500.00. I got the package deal for under $1000.00!!!!! And its brand new!!!! I had been watching auctions all month trying to get a used Bernina for a good deal and had been unable to get one. In fact, I had made up my mind that a Bernina was the way to go. My big concern was that we do not have a local dealer and the nearest one is 250 miles away. I feel like I made a good choice, if anything goes wrong with it, the dealer is here in town. I got it all set up yesterday and tried it out. It sews like a dream!!! I still have several quilt tops to finish, so I will be very busy this weekend. If any of you have this machine, please let me know how well it works for you. I would love to hear the good and the bad. This is very exciting for me, as I was sewing yesterday I stopped to think about the first machine I ever bought. It was a Singer touch and sew, used with a few cams to make decorative stitches. I paid $125 for it back then and used it for 25 years. It was like part of the family. After it was finally laid to rest and I bought another Singer in its place. I couldnt beleive the difference in quality. That machine is less than 2 years old and it has never worked properly. Im going to get it serviced and give to my older daughter. She needs one for hemming tablecloths etc. But she does not sew at all and wont use it very often. So I suppose it will be ok for occasional use. I hope yall have a great weekend. Black Friday!

I didnt brave the weather or the crowds today. I felt like just staying home and resting after such a busy Thanksgiving day. I worked on a quilt for the new baby that is on the way. His due date was moved up by 2 weeks. I was knee deep in Christmas projects, but decided to take a break and get this one cracked out!

This is the quilt pattern that I was going by. I really wasnt sure about the color palette. But my daughter wanted green and brown. I finally found this picture in a book called Simplify.

We chose these fabrics to use

I really love the lion and monkeys on the fabric. And who can resist the polka dots??

This is my youngest little man, Logan. Just look at his cute little grown up man tie! He will be sharing the spotlight is just a few weeks when his little brother makes his appearance. Bless his heart. I am curious how he will respond, since this will probably rock his little world! He is quite spoiled and very much a daddy's boy. Well, maybe with the new baby arriving, Nana and Papa will get to enjoy his comapany a little more!

I am wishing everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving. I have been very blessed this year and am so grateful for all the wonderful family I have. My husband is the best man, he is my best friend and just cant live without him in my life. We celebrated our 3rd anniversary this year! All of our children and grandchildren are such special gifts to us. We love them all and are thankful for each and everyone one of them. We are looking forward to adding another grandchild this year. He should arrive sometime right after Christmas. I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Let The Baking Begin!

I am so excited this year about the holidays! Usually, I have to rush around and cook after I get home from work, spending all my extra time trying to pull off a great meal for the family. This year, I am taking my time and getting some of my baking done ahead of time. My grandson will be coming over tomorrow to help me. Caleb is 12 years old and is showing a great interest in cooking! I am secretly thrilled to death. I always dreamed of baking in my kitchen with my grandchildren, just like my grandmother did when I was little. Some of my fondest childhood memories are in her kitchen helping her "stir up a cake". I was the oldest of 4 grand daughters and we would all pile into the kitchen watching her mix up a cake. One of us would get the bowl, one would get the spoon and 2 would get the beaters to lick afterward. We had many good times in those days and I dreamed of having that same special memory with my kids. Since all of my grands are boys, they are more interested in following Papa around and doing 'guy stuff'. Caleb's mother does not cook, so he is very interested in the whole process. He helped me make a banana pudding a few weeks ago and offered to help me with the preparations for Thanksgiving.

My son in law, Bryan is a chef here in our city. He is busy baking and cooking for the holidays and my daughter Jennifer is a floral designer. They married earlier this year and have recently moved the florist to a larger building with an area for a cafe! They are opening on Monday morning, we are so excited for them. I have shared a few recipes with him that have been passed on to me over the years and he is planning on using those during the holidays.

I have been blessed with 7 children and all of them will be here next week for Thanksgiving lunch. The holidays can be very demanding due to the inlaws, outlaws and all of the other stops the kids have to make, so I feel very fortunate that they come to my home for lunch. My daughters always arrive early so they can help me with last minute preparations and each one will bring a side dish or a dessert.

After we all eat and clean up the kitchen we draw names for Christmas. We started this last year and it works very well. When you have this many children it is very hard for all of them to buy presents for each other. We decided that drawing names would take the pressure off and they could focus on their families instead. I am hoping that they will be pleased this year with my quilts that I am making for them. I have one more to sew and get off to the quilter's! It has been a job, but I have really enjoyed it. I haven't been able to do alot of sewing in the past few years due to school and work. I have decided, that I will continue to spend time making quilts, since it is something I really love to do! I have always put my hobbies on the back shelf, in order to accomplish other things and now it is time to stop and do something for myself! Do you think that is selfish??? I have discovered that I have to buy a better sewing machine after the first of the year. I really miss my old singer that I used for so many years! And, I have ideas of making the spare bedroom into a more organized space so I can find everything I need while I am working on a project.

I Love This Quilt!

I got an early start this morning and decided to make another Christmas quilt. I just love this one, its easy and I was able to sew it together in an afternoon! My plan is to make one for all the kids for Christmas. I have to find someone to quilt them for me, since I am super slow at that. This pattern was a freebie at Moda's website. The pattern showed using scraps, but I didnt have enough to give it a good scrappy look.

I was so excited today to see the UPS man. He delivered an order from Fat Quarter shop that I have been so anxious to get. After I finish up with Christmas presents, I am going to make a quilt called Swoon. I ordered fabric called Ruby to complete it with. I want to make a few test blocks before I cut into the real stuff!

Well, hope you had a great day. I am starting another quilt top in the morning and have physical therapy tomorrow afternoon. Its going to be a very busy day!

New Quilt Top

I thought I would show you the new quilt top that I just made. I still have to quilt and bind it. It is a little small, so I will just use it as a lap quilt. I have had some issues with this pattern from the start. First of all, I hate to cut out the pieces, it the worst part of any project for me. I was cutting with a dull rotary tool and I also was working on it when I really wasnt feeling well. My squares are off a little and although I ripped it out twice, I still didnt get it completely square. I am a novice at quilting although I have been sewing for 30 plus years. But, I will keep trying and I am determined to be a great quilter one day!

I really loved the colors in this one, they are very bright and colorful. It will cheer me up on a rainy day for sure! Have a great week!

Good evening, hope everyone is having a great Friday! I have been thinking about upgrading to a new sewing machine. My beloved Singer machine went out on me a couple of years ago, right in the middle of a project so , I ran out and bought another machine which has not been a great choice. The machine I have now is a small singer and is ok for hemming a pair of pants and mending. But, I have discovered that it is not great for bigger jobs. To be honest with you, I have not put in alot of sewing time in the past two years. So I really haven't used it much, but since my surgery, I have been working on several quilt projects. I have had trouble with the tension, I hate the bobbin system and it just does not perform the way I expected. I am formulating a plan in my mind and need your ideas and imput.

First, I would love to have this Bernina! It is way out of my budget and we do not have a local dealer. I have looked at a Janome sewing machine. I have found it is much more affordable and we do have a dealer in our location. I would love to hear from you, please give me your recomendations. If the Bernina is the best choice, I will just have to save my money to buy one. If a Janome is a good choice, I can go ahead and purchase a new one. My sewing projects will be primarily quilts and would love to be able to machine quilt. I am not interested in making clothes anymore, since my children are grown. However I do make items such as curtains, placemats etc.

I now have a dedicated sewing room to use and do not have to pack up the machine every evening. I am loving this! When my kids were small, I made everything they wore. I would wait until their bedtime, set up my machine,sew until bedtime then put everything up!

Christmas Quilt

Good Afternoon! Hope you are enjoying this wonderful fall day. I have finished piecing my new Christmas quilt and hope to have it quilted pretty soon. I put it in the frames last night. Can't wait until after dinner so I can escape to my little sewing room and put in some stitches! This fabric was purchased at Hancocks, it has the cutest white snowflakes on it. This will be 60 x 60, so just right to snuggle up with on a cold afternoon. I have never made a pinwheel quilt, I know they are simple just never got around to using that design. It went together very fast and has inspired me to make another Christmas quilt soon.

Pumpkin Patch

Is there anything in the world cuter than a little boy exploring outside?? Logan went to the pumpkin patch this weekend and had a blast. He sorted through big ones and little ones and made his selection to take home with him. It is so much fun to watch him enjoying the outdoors!

Update:

For over 3 years, I have needed to have a knee replacement. I have put it off for many reasons.

1) I'm not old enough to have a knee replacement

2) I really hated the thought of a mile long scar down the front of my beautiful leg! (Y'all, its the only part of my body that looks good)

3) I have been in surgery and know what they really do to you while you are asleep.

4) I just cant take the time off to have this done.

Well, in the past 6 weeks, my joint has deteriorated to the point that I could no longer walk and lived in constant pain. I finally had to make the decision to have this done. I have had to accept the fact that I am old enough and I can always look at pictures to remind my grandchildren that I did have great legs once upon a time. And of course, now that I can't walk due to pain, there were no more conservative options.

This past Monday, we drove to Dallas and had it done. I am now at home, going to therapy 3 times a week. The pain is awful, I really thought I was tougher than this! I mean, I have had natural childbirth more than once! Everyone kept telling me its not the same kind of pain. Well hello!!! They got that part right. Its far worse than I could have imagined. I kept thinking prior to surgery, that I would have all this extra time to cook, work on recipes, sew and do some things I haven't enjoyed in a while. So far, I have been able to hobble from room to room on a walker, ya know one of those metal things with the glow in the dark tennis balls! I have this lovely pair of ted hose that I have to wear for 6 weeks, day and night. And a massive incision down the front of my leg. Fortunately, my surgeon did use sutures instead of staples, to preserve my vanity and explained that vitamin E oil would help to diminish the scarring. Then, he told me the exciting news that since I am so young, I will require another one before my lifespan is over. Sitting here, I am wondering why did this happen? Is it because of my chosen field of work? Is it because I always walked so fast? My mother, has never had this problem. In fact, I am the first person in our family to have this done. My sister works on her feet all day, of course she stands and never walks. Whatever the reason for it, it is now done and am in therapy to try and regain as much use as possible. I am seeing a picture of Maxine, the crabby old woman on a walker with glow in the dark tennis balls in a housecoat. Yep, that is me right now. Off to therapy I go, the youngest one sitting in the waiting room wearing thick white hose!

Old Fashioned Bread Pudding

Is there anything in the world more homey or satisfying than warm bread pudding? It is so versatile and easy to make, that you can have it ready to serve within an hour. Here is my basic recipe:

Bread Pudding

8 slices of stale bread ( I love to use wheat or french bread in mine)
2 cups of sugar
2 sticks of butter
3 eggs slightly beaten
1 tsp vanilla
approximately 4 cups of milk
1 tsp cinnamon

Cut the bread into 1 inch chunks and place into large mixing bowl. Pour milk in the bowl to allow it to soak into the bread. In separate bowl beat 3 eggs well, add the sugar,cinnamon and vanilla, beat well. Melt two sticks of butter and pour into bread and milk mixture ,stir until well incorporated. Add the egg/sugar mixture and mix gently together. Pour into a lightly greased dish( I use my corningware). Preheat oven to 350 degrees and bake for about 45 minutes until the center is set. Insert a knife to check and make sure it is done.

Variations:
French bread gives it a different yeasty taste which is very rich and yummy. I have also used hot dog buns, hamburger buns and white bread.
You can use evaporated milk, heavy cream,or half and half to substitute for some of the milk.
I have used raisins, apples, pears or any fall fruit to bump up the flavor.
Rum extract can be used instead of vanilla.

There are many recipes for sauce that can be poured on top, but I seldom use them. The pudding is very rich and with 2 sticks of butter it is already a heart stopper.

When you have leftover bread, just put the sack in the freezer and add to it. Soon you will have enough for a good size dessert to serve your family. I think it is a great way to use up stale bread or buns!

New Booth!

Today, is the big day for me! I have rented a small booth in a resale shop and will be moving some of my furniture there. I have downsized, gave away and bought more (its an obsession)! I used to send all of my stuff to the girls house, but then they started bringing it back after they were tired of it. My mother told me this would happen!

I have a friend whose son will be here soon to help me load the heavy stuff. Of course, I am naming my little booth Cute As Pie Cottage. Wish me luck, it's going to be a very busy day!

My Bucket List

Hello to everyone! I know it has been awhile since my last post. Life has been very busy here at the cottage.

I have reached a new milestone this week. I had my 50th Birthday Sunday! It was a very quiet day, just relaxing at home with the husband. Kids stopped by to wish me a happy day.

I have been thinking about all the things I have accomplished in the last 50 years as well as the things I havent, so I have had to revamp my bucket list this week.

When I was 15 yrs old, I wanted to be a housewife and a mother. I just couldnt stand the thought of college,so after high school I got married,had kids and was a stay at home mother. At the age of 30 I went back to school for an LVN license and started to work in a doctors office. At 40 I was divorced, raising children, working full time and started back to school again for an RN degree. At 45, I graduated and went to work at a local hospital. At 48 I remarried and started working on my BSN degree. Now that I am 50 I am sitting here thinking about all the trials I have been through,but many of them for the best!

In March I set a goal to lose 30lbs, so far I have lost 21lbs...YEAH!! I will graduate in May with my BSN (it takes me a long time with working a full time job!). My last daughter is off to college in 30 days. And I am planning some me time very soon!

My new list includes:

More travel! I want to see Europe and spend a month in Italy.

I want the freedom of working 3 days a week again

I am getting pretty tired of school, so not sure about that

Still have 9lbs to go to reach my goal

I just rented a small booth space, so want to dabble in that for a while (honestly, I just have too much furniture and need to sell some of it)

Spend more time with my husband

Go fishing

Plant a garden

Redecorate the house

I may try to paint again. Im terrible at it, but I can take some lessons and work on it

I want to see the United States, but particularly the south.

I want to take cooking lessons at the college just for fun

I want to stay at a beach house and walk through the sand

All of this will take alot of money, so I may have to rethink the school thing again!

Most of all, I want to breathe deep, look at the sky, smell the ocean,feel the sun on my face,hold my husbands hand, walk through this life and enjoy every day to the fullest.

Its been quite a ride so far!

The wedding was held outdoors in front of a historic home in our city. The reception was in the back yard.

We had a wonderful time, wishing them many years of happiness!

Hi Everyone!

Just wanted to pop in to say hello from Texas! We are having a wonderfully warm day and have spent much of it outside. We went to Pet Smart today and adopted a new member of the family named Sam! He is a border collie, about 2 years old. Sam is needing to be trained and although I have no experience with dog training, I think we can learn together. He seems to be wonderfully intelligent and already is learning to fetch and bring back. The bringing back was a little tricky, but he is getting the hang of it.

I wanted to share with you my new hobby. This spring I am taking a beginner's wine class. I cant believe how much I have learned. I really never liked red wine before this class, now I know why. I always poured wine into glass, and drank it, nasty!!! Wine has to breathe, it has to take time to mellow and let all the tannins evaporate. Then it is this incredible experience especially with chocolate! I am having a great time with 2 of my friends and learning something new at the same time. We have toured winery's before and although I loved white wine, just never got the red wine. But, I'm growing and expanding my horizons. Hope your having a great week.

Hi everyone! So happy to have finally bought copies of Trisha Yearwood cookbooks. They have been on my wish list for some time now. I usually cant afford paying full price for a book, so I wait it out on Ebay and lady luck finally smiled on me! Love the simple recipes and great photos in the cookbooks and cant wait to make something this weekend.

Most of the recipes seem to be very simple and most can be made in less than 30 minutes. That is my kind of meal! I spend lots of time in the kitchen during the weekend, but weekdays I am all for something quick and easy! If you get a chance to browse through it in the bookstore I think you will be pleased.

Logans First Christmas

Logan has such a rough life, he spends the day entertaining his grandparents. Growing, eating,talking and making life so wonderful for those who are blessed to be around him.

In his spare time, he is a superhero! He has several costumes,but Superman is his favorite. He goes about doing good all day long. He makes complete strangers smile and lifts the spirits of everyone around him. Whew! Its tough being in demand so much of the time.

At night, he is just tuckered out. Mickey keeps him warm while he dreams of all the adventures he will have another day.

What fun we had yesterday! Our family is completely in love with this little squidgy, soft bundle of joy. He made our Christmas very special and certainly one to always remember! Enjoy your weekend.

Fruitcake Flop!

Sorry it has been so long since my last post. My computer was never recovered and finally had to buy one today. I have been in a baking frenzy today. I have made 3 batches of cookies, a big pot of soup and another attempt at the traditional fruitcake.

My mother has the best recipe for fruitcake. It is chock full of pecans,cherries and pineapple with lots of lemon flavoring. I have been trying for 25 years to make this cake and every year, mine sticks to the pan. I have bought new pans, greased and floured it heavily and even lined with wax paper. Today I made my 25th cake and true to tradition it fell all apart, in spite of several phone calls to mom today talking me through it. I'm about ready to give up! But, I cannot throw in the towel just yet. This is the first year my Irish son in law will be here for Christmas and I have promised him a full blown traditional Texas Christmas. So, I must try it again next week.I'm so happy I didnt use all of my nuts today,since this recipe calls for a quart of chopped pecans!

Oh well, I will try again to make the perfect cake. If it fails,I have decided to take it all to my mothers and let her bake it for me. I was also making some shortbread cookies and wanted to dip them in white chocolate and then in crushed peppermint. I thought this would look so pretty. I was very carefully watching the chocolate and it burned in the microwave.

If any of you have any suggestions, please forward them to me. I am distressed today after having so many failures. Usually, my baking turns out very well.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday! We have had family over today with lots of fun and food. We have enjoyed every moment. We drew names for Christmas today and realized in the past year our family has really grown! Ive got lots to do now in preparation for Christmas.

My computer has a nasty virus and is in the shop. My daughter is allowing me to use hers for the day to catch up . So I do not have any wonderful pictures to post. I have some great vintage photos on mine and hope they will be recovered!

Peace and Harmony During the Holidays

The holiday seasons are upon us and with all the preparations being made, sometimes we overlook some very important details.
Newspapers and magazines will print articles on the rapid rise of depression and stress during the season, and in an attempt to elevate guilt many families go overboard trying to create the perfect celebration. When all of the presents are unwrapped and the turkey is gone, we look at the mountain of bills that start flowing in. And some will feel the great"letdown" of after the season blues!
In our world today many of us are trying to blend families and still maintain traditions of the old. I have learned some important lessons over the years and would like to share them with you.

1) Stop stressing over the gifts! They do not have to be wrapped in gorgeous paper tied with elegant bows and trimmed with personalized ornaments. Nor do they have to be expensive. I love the idea of making handmade gifts, but with my schedule of work and school it is simple impossible. So I gave up that idea a few years ago. Will your family suffer from permament damage if they do not recieve handmade gifts?No! My teenagers could care less! And the grown children would just as well have cash. My kids want to hit the holiday sales after Christmas and choose what they want. Nothing is more aggravating than standing in a long line to exchange sizes or gifts.

2) I was under the false impression for many years that I had to bake 12 pies, dozens of cookies and cakes. And put on a spread for the actual meal! Wrong! Get those kids involved! I now make a menu ahead of time and each child brings a dish. Of course, if your kids are small you might not want to do that! But really no one will notice if you only serve 4 veggies instead 8. Take a poll of your family's favorite holiday food and plan your menu from those requests. I can think of several salads that I used to make each year simply because MY mother made them. Those are usually the ones that get thrown out a few days later.

3)If you are trying to blend two families it can be very stressful,especially if you feel compelled to include all of the past traditions. I have 2 stepchildren and have been very fortunate that we get along so well. I asked them what they loved most about Christmas and made sure they felt welcome and included in the plans. One year I tried filling everyone a stocking and buying gifts. After it was all over,I decided that while we will hang the stockings each year, that the expense was not worth the reaction we got. All of the candy, fruit and small items were found lying around and no one actually took it home.

4)Make new traditions! I know we all want the ideal Norman Rockwell perfect Christmas. I would work for weeks trying to make that happen. Guess what? I was the one that felt it was not quite right! So the next year,I would try harder. I finally came to realize that I love some of the old,but it was also time to bring in the new . While we may not want to accept it, this is 2011, not 1951. Now, dont get me wrong. I LOVE the idea of it, but in reality we simply do not live that way. I would love to sit around the fire at night singing Christmas carols and drinking eggnog. My kids are sitting around trying to figure out the newest gadget they just got. Last year, we all gathered at the house for sandwiches,chips and dips on Christmas Eve. The older kids got a game of Monopoly going and we stayed up most of the night playing a tournament. Everyone spent the night and we opened gifts the next morning. My husband and I loved it, but the grown kids were on the sofa, the floor and sacked out in the chairs. They made the decision that they loved the activities,but they missed their beds and would not be spending the night again!

5) Scale down some of the decorations! I have the snow villages, the Bedford Falls village, the collection of nutcrackers, angels and vintage toys. I used to put up five trees , decorate the stair banisters, the porch, the yard and anything else that would stand still long enough. A few years ago I moved into a much smaller home and decided that I would alternate my themes. One year I will have the villages out, the next year it might be the vintage old fashioned toys and ornaments. But I do not bring it all out every year. I keep a holiday book and know each year which one I will do next.

Now, I am sure there will be many of you that do not agree with this. Maybe you are a stay at home mom and have the extra time and energy to accomplish all of the above without scaling back a bit. Or maybe you can afford an extra person to come in and trim your trees and deck the halls. There is nothing wrong with that. But for those that cant, make the traditions count. Make the most of the time you are spending with your family. Remember that those are the things that really count. Remember the real reason we celebrate the season is our Saviors birth. He came that we could be free from bondage and enjoy life everlasting! Memories are precious to all of us and if we can make them more memorable by simply having a less stressful holiday. We will all be happy and healthier!

Holidays Are Coming!

Im so excited about the holiday season this year! I have so many reasons to be thankful and try to remind myself each day of the goodness of the Lord! I kept thinking this week about the word "Grace". I read the definition in the dictionary and it stated that grace is the unmerited favor of God! Unmerited! Something that we do not earn, but He still pours out his favor and grace each and every day of our life.
Looking back over my life there have been many struggles, many hardships,but I have overcome them all with Gods favor. He has shown me that many things we do not understand have made me the person that I have become. He has also shown me that there is nothing impossible when we believe. Struggles that seem insurmountable are made bearable when God is on our side. There is nothing that we cannot overcome when we have faith in our Savior.
My prayer this week is that you will hide His word in your heart and dwell on the blessings he has given you!

2nd Anniversary!

Time has just flown by! We are already celebrating our 2nd anniversary. This year my husband surprised me with a trip to the mountains. We drove up into the Oklahoma mountains for the weekend. It was just heavenly, we had no TV, no Internet and no telephones. We spent the entire weekend talking and just relaxing , what a change from our hectic life.

The log cabin was nestled in an out of way location, beside a river. The cabin was beautiful and very tastefully furnished. All I had to pack was some snacks and wine.

This was the room as it looked when you walk in. The mountains were beautiful with leaves in every color!

Lots of good books, chocolates,candles and plush robes were provided. The weather was cooler than we had been used to and it was so nice to sit out on the balcony and watch the sunset over the mountains.

I spent lots of time relaxing in the tub.

It was a little too warm for a fire, but we enjoyed the view of the stone covered fireplace. It was so warm and inviting. We cant wait to come back here in the winter time.

Books! Glorious Books!

I have found the most delightful books! I just couldnt wait to share them with you. As you know I love pie! I could eat pie every day and never get tired of it! So when I ran across this wonderful cookbook devoted to southern pies, well Im just in pie heaven! I cant wait to get in the kitchen and start baking up some of the great recipes I found in this book. My Granny used to bake a butterscotch pie that had coconut and pecans in it. It was creamy and so delicious, I am hoping to recreate her recipe with the help of this book.

Another wonderful find this week are a couple of Betty Crocker books on entertaining. My daughters and I are going to host a cocktail, tree trimming party with a 1960"s theme. This book has so many great ideas that I can use for our party. We have decided to have it the Saturday after Thanksgiving, everyone will help trim the tree, eat and be merry!

This little book is a re-print of a guide published in the 1950"s. It has fabulous ideas on food,tablescapes,invitations and so many other great tips. Im in book heaven today.

I weeded and cleaned up the patio today. Our son in laws parents are arriving from Ireland tonight and wanted it to be spic and span!

I have planted some herbs in pots. Hope they will grow for a while outside and then I can bring them indoors! Have a great week!

50Th Anniversary

Dont you just love the Andy Griffith Show? I love this show and have since I was a kid. TV Land is celebrating the 50 th anniversary with back to back shows. Andy is the father everyone wishes they had. Loyal, kind,wise and good. An upright man who always does the right thing even when it hurts.

Opie is just too cute. I have always longed to live in a community where your children could play outside in the fresh air and ride their bikes without fear.

But, Aunt Bea is my favorite! She is the epitome of all that is gracious and good in a homemaker. Her pearls are gorgeous and her hair just right. Even after a long day of baking and shopping for her home. Take time to watch a few of the re-runs. I know you will walk away feeling better about everything, with a good chuckle to boot!

My Wonderful Weekend

AHHHH! I have had such a great weekend. My grandson, spent the morning with me yesterday. He was such a trooper! I had to grocery shop and run errands, and he was very patient with me. After we returned home, he spent the morning dazzling me with his new writing and spelling skills(he is6). We looked at Halloween decorations and decided that we would go for the autumn look rather than the scary pumpkin look.

I bought sunflowers and arrranged them in an old galvanized watering can on the sun porch. Drug out some fall decor and fluffed and puffed the living and dining room. I still have a way to go, but at least its a start!

I was sidetracked, by my new Barefoot Contessa cookbook and just couldnt wait to look at it. As a result, I have spent two days cooking non stop! Yesterday, I made Chicken alfredo with penna pasta, salad and some fabulous bread I discovered called Rosemary Potato bread. It is wonderfully fragrant and very tasty. This morning I got up at the crack of dawn and had a great frittata made for the family. My daughter just looked at me and asked what time did you get up? It was really easy and went together fast. After that I made a apple and pear crisp for dessert tonight. Now, I am grilling some steak and throwing together a salad. I am going to make some mashed potatoes instead of baked and add some onion and chive cream cheese. Hopefully they will be delicious! Have I mentioned that I am addicted to Food Network? I tape my favorites to watch over the weekend. Ina Garten is one of the best. I love how easy her recipes are and so delicious. She will be on a book tour this fall, stopping Dallas for a book signing. I would love to go!!!! But, I have to work that day!

School Bells

School has started and it brings me joy and sadness. My daughter is in her senior year, kinda bittersweet. On one hand, I will never buy school clothes with a teenage daughter again. On the other, Im sure next year I will miss it.
But more than ever, I am so happy that fall is upon us! We have had a severe heat wave and it is just now starting to wane a bit. By the end of the week temperatures should only be around 95 degrees. I cant wait for fall, it is my favorite time of year.

Heat Wave!

We have been having some really hot weather in the past 2 weeks. Temperatures are well above 100 degrees and it is so miserable. So I have been staying inside playing with the new grandbaby. He REALLY likes to take a bath!
School starts on Monday and not looking forward to it at all. We shopped today for a few things to add to my daughters existing wardrobe. But really didnt find that many sales going on. Next week is Tax free weekend. Most shoppers are out and about then, but not me. I cannot fight the crowds looking for clothes with everyone else in the city. So we will add a few things and make do with what we have for now.

I love being at home! I have really enjoyed my new house and the space it affords. I now have enough room to display my favorite things without neglecting my husbands belongings. The home we shared before had belonged to him for 30 years and it was very much a bachelors home. It had taken me a year to incorporate our things together and make it ours. But we just didnt have enough room. Together we have 7 children, 4 grandchildren and tons of family and friends. So space is a premium when we are all together.

The pantry door has been painted with chalkboard paint so we have had all the kids sign it for us as they came to visit.

I was just noticing today how many items I have that say "home" and several things that make me feel at home. Have you ever watched the movie "The Quiet Man"? I love this movie. There is a part where she tells her new husband she has to have her things about her. I feel that way also. Everyone has special items that just make you feel at home.

I love the bird pillow and it is soooo comfy. The rocker and old sewing box I found at an estate sale.

I love having scripture in the house. It reminds me daily to give thanks for all I have in this world.

Sorry this is so blurry. This is a cross stitch sampler that I did about 25 years ago. I recently spray painted the frame flat black to update it and hung it in the kitchen.

I fell in love with this picture the minute I saw it in the Gooseberry Patch catalog. I bought it for myself as an early Christmas present last year.

More pictures soon. I have been spending all of my time with my new grandson. He is so adorable and babies grow up so fast. Im trying to get my time in now. Little boys are not still for very long once they start to walk!

Grandson Has Arrived!

we have been blessed with a new grandson today. Logan Patrick arrived today at 3:15 pm. He weighed 6lbs 8oz and is 20 inches long.

Mother and baby are doing great! I share this little miracle with his paternal grandparents who live in Ireland. They were able to see Logan today by the internet and will come to the US in October to spend some time with him.

In the meantime I will spoil him enough for both of us and enjoy this little blessing that God has given us. You can just barely see it, but he has the cutest little dimple in his chin! And just look at those precious little lips.
I was working today and ran back and forth until he was born. I have had quite a workout! Thanks be to God that he has arrived safe!

Trying to Cool Off!

We are having a heat wave! The temperatures are soaring and we are trying to stay indoors as much as possible. I thought it would be nice to set out the beverage dispenser and fill with ice, water and some fresh strawberries. The berries give the water just enough flavor to taste. I have also used lemons, limes and oranges sliced into thin wedges.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend. I cannot believe that it is August 1st already! School will be starting soon and Christmas will be upon us before we know it. I noticed that Hobby Lobby has started putting out the decorations for the holiday season! This year is just flying by.
We are expecting a new grandbaby any minute now. Kristy's due date was yesterday. She came over and stayed most of the afternoon. She is having alot of contractions, but nothing is happening on a regular basis. Hopefully it wont be too much longer. Im staying by the phone just in case!

Yesterday was my birthday! I had such a great time. All of the kids came over, we had a cookout, went swimiing, sit around and enjoyed each others company. My cake was awesome! Hi Everyone, hope you are having a great weekend so far. I spent most of yesterday cleaning house, unpacking more boxes and trying to make everything pretty. Today I resolve to rest! We are going to enjoy the pool and grill some burgers for lunch. I am enjoying the new house so much. It is very peaceful here and wonderful to come home from a hectic day and hop in the pool for a little unwinding time! I know we have been far more active since the move. It seems that we never sit in front of the TV anymore(which is a good thing) and all of our time is spent enjoying the backyard. It has been several years since I have lived in a home with such a great space to enjoy. I am loving every minute of it.

Hubbys house will soon be on the market for sale after the painters finish with it. He has so many plans for the house here, so he cant wait for it to sell!

I was browsing the other day at Pier One and found the cutest juice glasses! One has a rooster design and the other a cherry. I couldnt decide which I like the best, so decided to mix them and bought 2 of each design. Making the Move

Hi y'all, I have been busy as a bee this week! We were able to purchase the new home this week ! I am sooo excited about moving closer to work and making a nest together. As you may remember, I sold my house last week and we are currently living in my husbands home. I have a million ideas swirling through my head and cant wait to implement them in our new home. Here is a quick picture of the new kitchen. I am having mixed reactions from friends about the two colors of the kitchen. I personally love it. I think it really is a great idea to update an out of date kitchen. This house was built in the 1980's, so the cabinets show the dated construction. I simply cannot replace the entire kitchen cabinetry, so that is where paint comes into place.
I also found this great fabric today and am trying to find a great thrift chair that I can recover to place in the living room! It has the appearance of embroidery and I love the apple green in the details. I found this at Hancocks fabric 50% off.
We will have a breakfast nook in the house and I found this great table on clearance. I think I love it, but still looking for other possibilities. What do yall think??? Pair with some vintage thrift chairs, cover in black toile????
Now, I love this fabulous old fashioned chair and just cant get it off my mind. I hate it when that happens!!!! This chair is very costly, so I am looking for a cheaper alternative. I need this in my bedroom, to relax in and read a good book!
I will post pictures of the new house soon. We will close at the end of the month. I have tons of packing to do. Planning on a huge yard sale to get rid of the extras and hoping to furnish the house to MY taste!!! Right now we have a hodge podge of furniture from both of our homes. We plan to keep the desirable and pass the rest on to our 7 kids!!! Now, if I can just figure out what to do with all of the duck pictures, hunting gear and Harley stuff!!!! I think we need a shop decorated in man cave style!! Just kidding, there is a den and plan to incorporate all of hubby's stuff in his room. I want simple cozy, casual and comfy in the living area.

Girls, did ya know that Paula Deen has a furniture line? I just discovered it yesterday while shopping. I just love love love it. The pieces are so casual and have a wonderful old southern cottage feel to them.
They are quite pricey and out of my modest budget, but I can get some great ideas from them!

Love this piece. The store we were in yesterday had this in black. The drawers all pull out and create a ton of nice storage. Such a versatile item. Could be used in any room! What do ya think????

Cute as Pie just bought a new cottage! We couldn't be happier about it. My home sold in February and we have closed on it, so when we found our new home it just clicked! The home is in a very well established neighborhood on a great lot. The yard is bigger than I would like to have but it sure does make hubby happy! My swimming pool, covered patio, hot tub makes me and Annie very happy. The house is darling. The previous owner has a good eye for style and the colors are very close to my own taste. There is just not much I have to do but move in. DID I mention I will be 10 minutes from my job versus 45 minutes????? Oh yes, that is a wonderful wonderful thing girls! I can even go home for lunch if I wanted to. The floor plan is great very open, not alot of wasted space. Closets galore, new updates. I think it will be wonderful. There is even a little sandbox area with a covered umbrella so that my grandsons can play in the dirt, I can dunked them in the pool to clean them and send em right back home!!!!
Mr is a little nervous due to the fact he has lived in the same house for 25 years. He hasn't fully related to my gypsy blood, when I was a little girl we moved every year. I cant wait to get going. Half of the fun for me is the new atmosphere. It is the Laura Ingall's spirit in me wanting to reach out for a new land(or house in this case).
We will close in 30 days and then the fun begins, cant wait to post the new house pictures and all of the ideas that are flying around in my head.!!!!!!!

New House??

Hi Yall,
We just looked at a new home today and my mind is just whirling with possibilities! The home is closer to work, has a swimming pool (which I really miss, my last home had one). Decorated in cottage style(which I love), in older neighborhood (this is a plus), larger yard(may be a problem at our age),I would be 3 miles from work instead of 45 min, close to college for my daughter, all of my kids live in this area, and my grandkids! We would have to buy this one, move , paint our old one and sell it. What do ya think????? Hubby is a little apprehensive, but he is very cautious anyway. I have sold my home, so we currently do not have a house payment. We would save money in the long run and lots of time commuting Taxes in this area are more expensive, but think of the money we would save in gas for my daughter and I( we both travel each day to work and school). Ok, can yall think of anything else???THIS may be a hard sell to a man with no house payment..LOL. Let me hear back from ya!!!!

Summer Days Are Here!

Hello friends! What a busy week I have had. Today, we spent the majority of the afternoon buying plants for the front flower beds. I wished I had some before photos to show you of the mess I inherited when I married last year! It literally looked like a jungle in the front beds. My wonderful step- son Mat, worked his magic and cleared it all out for me this past week. We leveled the ground added some more soil and paver's to make 4 smaller beds. Today, we planted an assortment of herbs, flowers and ground cover. I still need to add some architectural elements in and a little whimsy. But it is shaping up nicely. The bed closest to the kitchen is filled with rosemary, chives, thyme, dill,and lavender. I had some cute bunny's and added them in the mix with a vintage watering can. It looks like Peter Rabbit is right at home now!
Next weekend, will be canton week and I plan to take off for the day and shop for more ideas to bring it all together. The front porch has a huge wrought iron bakers rack sitting by the front door and I have added several old baskets, watering cans and clay pots to fill it up. I bought 3 hanging baskets today and they are situated across the front porch on hooks. I just cant wait to finish it and post some new pictures for you to see.

Howdy ladies! Well, it has been a crazy month here at the cottage. Finals, prom, selling the house, you name it has happened. I am in need of some serious chillin time! What better way to get rid of the stress that to visit with the sisters! Irene Rawling's new book which features Sisters on the Fly is now available through Amazon.com. I intend to sit this weekend and soak up the colorful pictures that are in this wonderful book. It's Prom Night!

Well, the day has finally arrived! Her very first prom and she is soooo excited about going. Hair appoinment, nail appoinment, eyebrow appoinment! This was a busy day. She was late getting her hair done this afternoon and the rush was on. A storm showed up and that put a little damper on the day. You never know how your hair might look if it rains in North East Texas!
Proud Dad, was her escort tonight to dinner and the dance. This was the first time he had been so it was a treat for him also.

Spring!

WOW! Cant believe that Spring is already here! I have been so busy the last 2 weeks with prom, cheerleader tryouts, school, work , hair appointment's ,and all of the everyday stuff has left me gasping for breathe. While, the end of the school year is typically a hectic time, this year has been extra busy with prom. This will be the first year Annie will get to go. We had searched high and low for the perfect dress. She is only 5ft tall and it is difficult to find a dress to fit without major alterations. Yesterday we spent the day trying on more gowns and finally found THE one! It is very pretty and looks gorgeous on her. She cut her hair shorter and we have been experimenting with styles. Cheer tryouts were last week and am happy to report that she made it again. This will be her senior year and I hope it will be a great time in her life with lots of good memories.
Today, we are spending the day inside. It is rainy and cool out,so thought it would be a good day to catch up on all the great blogs I have missed the past two weeks. Have a blessed week and enjoy the day!

Lamberts

A couple of weeks ago on our trip we stopped at Lambert's Home of the Thrown Roll!
We had read about it and decided we needed to check it out for ourselves. When we arrived it was about 2pm and we had an hour wait ahead of us. The interior is so cute, lots of good ole fashioned country style! We spent an hour looking around and shopping in the gift store. Before we knew it, they called our name overhead!
The rolls are as big as softballs. A guy comes out with a huge cart and starts throwing the rolls to the customers. It was alot of fun and they were delicious! We could only eat one!
We placed our orders and soon huge skillets were placed in front of us. Annie ordered the chicken fried steak, mac and cheese, fried apples and potatoes with gravy. Several waiters come around with huge bowls and offer you other vegetable choices, such as fried okra. There was no way we could eat all of it. You could easily share one meal, but that is not allowed! We had such a wonderful time, enjoyed the music, food and laughter. I will visit this place again when I am in the area. It was such a great choice!

Remembering a Dear Friend

Today we will be saying goodbye to a very dear friend of ours. Larry Daniel,age 53 was killed in a motorcycle accident this week on his way to work. Larry, leaves behind his wife Kelly, 2 children and 7 grandchildren. We are very saddened by his loss. Larry was a wonderful friend as evidenced last night by the huge outpouring of family friends at the visitation.
Dear friend you will be greatly missed! Our life was touched by your soft quiet ways and your love of family. The road you ride now will be eternal and the destination is ever before you. You truly lived the life you were given and will never be forgotten by those still on the journey.

Cobblestones

While on spring break, we visited the historic city of St Charles, MO. The downtown is filled filled wonderful old homes and shops to tempt you.One of our favorites was called Cobblestone. It was filled with so many wonderful things to look at. We had such a great time browsing through this bright and cheerful place.
Love the chair and the pillows! Look at the quill pen and the ink well!
I just fell in love with the little houses. Each one had a light inside, you could create an entire village with the different choices. I really loved the little church.
There were penny hook rugs, quilts, candles, pictures, furniture and just about everything you could think of. We spent alot of time in here, just browsing and wishing we had one of everything!

Laura Ingalls Wilder

My favorite part of my vacation was visiting the Laura Ingall Wilder musuem. I grew up reading her books and was so excited to visit her home. When we arrived it was already mid afternoon,so we only had a couple of hours until the museum closed.
The grounds are beautiful! Well maintained and they were actually tilling up a garden while we were there. The caretaker informed us they grow fresh vegetables every year.
Laura had an extra large mailbox to hold her fan mail. Even in the 1950's she received at least 50 letters a day. She had a special chair in her dining room and spent many hours replying to each and every letter. She was very serious about making sure that she took time out of her day to respond to each one.
Laura didn't start writing her books until she was in her 60's. For many years she had written articles for the local paper and they have been compiled into a book for everyone to read. A copy is available at the bookstore.
This is the side of the house, with a screened in back porch. This door leads into the kitchen, everything in the kitchen was handmade by Almanzo just for Laura. She was under 5 ft and her cabinets were built to accommodate her small stature. She had painted her kitchen a bright cheery yellow and the trim was in white. Her wood burning stove was the highlight of the kitchen! She had a pass through by the sink. After she cooked the food she would placed the dishes onto the ledge and push them through to the other side. The dining room was next door, she would place the dishes on the table and when she finished she could push them back through the opening to the kitchen, saving her many steps. By reading in her farm journal. I have discovered she was very conscious time and making sure she did not waste any of it. I believe she lived life to the fullest.
The stone fireplace was massive. It took 40 wagon loads of stone to construct the chimney. There were huge flat stones on the inside to form the mantel and sides of the fireplace.
The house started out as a small room with an add on kitchen, over the years it was added onto at least 9 more times to form a 10 room house.
It was a beautiful day to visit the grounds. We really enjoyed the museum and all of the many items on display. We saw Pa's fiddle, Laura's sewing machine, her school slates, the quilts her and Mary made when they were little girls. Several items of bead work, clothing, hats, jewelry and so many other items it was hard to take it all in.
At the end of the day, we were tired, but had a wonderful time. I wished I had arrived that morning to soak it all in. I will go back one day to see it again. What a wonderful heritage that has been preserved for our children to enjoy!
I hope that every child has the pleasure of reading Laura's books. It is a rare insight to a world we will never know again. A simple life, that was spent with family, friends and lived to the fullest. Laura's life was difficult, but she overcame every obstacle to make it the best she could. And she lived to the fullest everyday of her life! She is described as a delightful woman with a very vivacious personality. She loved to entertain guests and spend time with her beloved husband. I think she led an extraordinary life.
I encourage you to visit this home if in the area. It was wonderful!

Spring Break Part Two

The second day of our trip, we had planned to head straight into Mansfield MO. Annie, wanted to take a detour to see Branson. I had explained to her that Branson, was about country shows and really more of a tourist trap for shopping and eating. She insisted that it must be something, because several of her friends had been there. So, off we went for a visit. After arriving in the city, she looked over at me and said"Im not impressed". OKAY! Now what?? Much of the city was not open at the time and the water parks were closed. I had read about Silver Dollar City, so I decided to drive out and see what it was all about. We were very happy that we did.
Silver Dollar City is about 15 miles west of Branson past the The Shepherd of the Hills(which was closed at the time).
We bought our tickets and headed into the park for a visit. They are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the park this year.
We were delighted by all of the things we saw. It is just like being dropped into the 1880"s. There were so many craftsmen and interesting shops to visit in. we watched a man blow glass and shape it into a candle holder. He went into great detail about the process of creating the glass piece. The shop next door contained about 90% of blown glassware made on the premises.

We saw building depicting an actual village with everyone dressed in pioneer clothing. There was a sheriff at the entrance who would deputize the little boys as they came in and pin a shiny star on their shirt.
The wilderness church was simply beautiful. We stole a few moments to take in the sun shining through the windows. A crocheted prayer cloth was on the wall, and simple logs had been crafted for benches.
The day was gorgeous and we were able to take our time exploring the park.
We visited the Apple Butter store. If you love apples this is the place to visit. Every type of merchandise imaginable was in the store, including homemade apple dumplings with ice cream!
I loved the wood carving store. Many different types of items large and small were available. Many craft tools, patterns and DVD instructions were handy if you wanted to give it a try. Classes are available during the year.
Huck had a huge mining operation going on . Slews were set up to search for treasure, panning for gold and other gems. You buy a sack of sand and search through it in the screened pan. I am sure my grandsons would love this.

This is every little boys dream! Water, sand and treasure hunting!
The saloon had shows throughout the day as well as other forms of singing, magic shows and entertainment.
Now, this is one form of entertainment I can live without. The line was long, but the ride worth the wait I am told. No thanks!
While my girl rode the rollercoaster, I just walked around for awhile and enjoyed the sights and sounds.
An old fashioned one room schoolhouse. I didnt get to go inside this one, it was very crowded and dark inside.
Love admiring the craftsmanship of the old buildings.
I really enjoyed listening to the music being played on the porch of the old log home. Inside the house it is set up just as it would be in the 1880's. A woodburning cookstove was lit and a lady was cooking lunch on it. The bedroom side of the cabin had a metal bed with a quilt covering, lots of pioneer essentials were on display to look at.
We ended our stay at Silver Dollar City and went back into Branson to spend the night and travel on to Mansfield the next day! Hope you are enjoying the photos, we had a blast. Spring Break Vacation Part 1

There is nothing better than a get away to refresh your mind and body! I have always loved the Ozark mountains and try to visit at least a couple of times a year. This year, my 16 year old daughter and I decided to take a short trip and pack in as many things as we could in a few days. We took off to Eureka Springs as our first destination. It has to be one of my favorite destinations and Annie just fell in love with it!
We visited War Eagle Grist Mill outside of Rogers, Arkansas. I wanted to show her a real working grist mill and let her experience the beautiful countryside of the Ozarks.
I love the apple butter and stocked up on a few jars to enjoy until our next visit. I always buy several sacks of the fresh biscuit mix. I keep them in the freezer to stay fresh. Just a couple of cups and you can whip up hot biscuits in a flash!
Love the bridge! Last year during the craft show, hundreds of people walked across to enjoy the vendors and all of the wonderful things to see and do.
We loved standing on the bridge and listening to the flowing water. It was a cool day, but the sun shown brightly and not a cloud in the sky!
The inside of the mill contains the storage, gift shop and on the third floor, you can enjoy a hot homemade Ozark breakfast!
Since this was my daughters first trip and we had so much to see. I had to hit the highlights of the town. We visited the Christ of the Ozarks, Thorn crown Chapel, and all of the historic downtown. We spent the day shopping and visited all of my favorite little shops. I bought a few gifts for the girls and a treat or two for myself!
I took her out to the Crescent Hotel to show her where we had married last year. There was a wedding going on at the time in the same spot!
She toured the hotel and went out on the back porch to view the mountains. At night the Christ of the Ozarks is lit and you can see it from the hotel.
After all of the tours, we were starving and decided that some Bar-B-Q was just what we needed. Bubba's is right on the main road in the city and if you can get a parking spot you can eat a wonderful meal. Annie, had sauce dripping everywhere. It was messy eating, but sooo good!
We spent the night in a nice little hotel, got a good night sleep and then we took off the next day to travel into Missouri. Our original plan was to go to Mansfield Mo and then on to St Charles. Well, we decided to visit Branson as well. I will post those photos in the next few days! Have a great week.

Sunday News

Hope yall are having such a great day! We got up this morning and decided to go eat breakfast at Cracker Barrel. I just love the apple butter they have spread over some piping hot biscuits and with some smoked ham! YUMMMMY! We ate late and came back home to do a little yard work. Not my favorite thing to do on Sunday, but it has to be done. I am packing a few bags and taking off on a trip to Missouri!
I was so enchanted by my sister blogger Aunt Ruthie over at Sugar Pie Farmhouse that I just had to make the trip she blogged about a few months back. So we are striking out Wednesday morning and heading to St Charles MO. I want to visit all of the historical sites that we can squeeze in. We are going on up the road to Hannibal Mo to check out the 100th aniversary of Mark Twain. Ride on a riverboat and tour the caves that I saw on the visitor website. Then on the trip back we plan to stop in at Mansfield to visit the Laura Ingalls Wilder museum. I want to make a stop in Silver Dollar City, but not sure we can do all of this in a short amount of time. Girls, I just cant wait to visit the quilt shops, antique stores and try all of the delicious food they have to offer!
When we get back and rest up then I will get back to the yard work! I am planting some Hydrangeas this year. I just love the big blooms and the way they look in the summer. I love to dry a few and put them in white pitchers on the back porch.

Backyard Farming

Being raised in the country, I have longed for the opportunity again to have a little country in the suburbs. I loved having chickens and gathering the eggs when I was a little girl. My Granny had patches of strawberries to be picked and put in the freezer. She had a treadle sewing machine that we would play on for hours at a time. She always saved her Sears catalogs and we would use them to cut out paperdolls and made dollhouses out of old cigar boxes. Life was fun, but simple. I get the itch this time of year to order baby chicks, plow up a garden and dream about the rich fertile soil squishing between my toes. I guess you cant take the country out of a girl.
Last year I discovered Mary Jane Farms and get my country fix every other month through her wonderful magazine. I then pass it along to my mother and sister to read. I loved this months issue with the articles on gardening and quilts. Mary Jane lives a life that many of us can only dream of. So, I set out to think of ways to add a little country to my city home. I decided to plant the flower beds this year in herbs that will provide fragrance as well as taste to my everyday cooking. I would love to have a few chickens in the backyard, but afraid that wont fly with the homeowners in the neighborhood. I have an enclosed patio that I want to redo into a nice little retreat. I am sprucing up the chair cushions with some tea stained floral fabric. And painting a fresh new color on the walls. The windows are screen, so I think I might purchase a new screen door with some vintage touches to add a little country to my world. I have a collection of vintage watering cans and some ironstone pitchers. I want to install some shelves under the windows to display them. I love fresh flowers, so will use the pitchers to infuse some needed color.
Girls, just look at how much fun these true farm girl sisters are having! I can just imaging all of them together sharing a good old fashioned meal. Telling stories and copying new recipes. What a wonderful day that would be. Well, I am out the door to work the flower beds. Have a great week and take some time for fun!

Fresh Farmhouse Style

Spring is in the air and it always makes me want to clean up and clear out! I needed some inspiration so I went to the Country Living website for some ideas. I am so loving the wicker baskets with the freshly ironed linens tucked inside. And who could resist the lye soap in the white urn. My Granny used to make lye soap and I do miss it. I would use a cheese grater and grate the soap, add some to my laundry and my clothes would come out smelling clean and fresh as a daisy!
I love this old country farm sink. A white pitcher with some daisy's and you have got country right in your kitchen window!
This red finish on the iron bed is wonderful!. I love how they have mixed the black in with the red and yellow. It really pops! How easy it would be to transform some tired old furniture with a fresh coat of paint.
I am so in love with this bedroom. I love the country feel it has. The wallpaper is beautiful and the white painted plank flooring gives it a fresh look. Every girl needs several pair of vintage cowgirl boots. I was shopping the other day and ran across some vintage style boots. They were new reproductions of boots from the 1960's.
I love the crisp whiteness and cool, fresh look of this cupboard. This would work in any room, I can see this in a master bathroom to store linens, perfume bottles and hand towels. Tuck an extra pair of sheets in the bottom of the cabinet and a dish of your favorite homemade lavender soaps. Smells heavenly! I hope you are getting the spring itch to spruce up your living space. I cant wait to get started!

Simply Delicious

I hope you are having a wonderful day! We got up this morning and drove to Canton,TX to enjoy this wonderful sunshine and warmer temperatures. It was the perfect day for getting out of the house and just enjoying each others company. My sweet husband was so thoughtful, I had mentioned to him a few days ago that I had not been in several months, due to the rainy cold days. We were reading the paper this morning and he announced we would be going to the flea market today! He is not fond of those type of outings so it certainly took me by surprise. We had a wonderful trip and saw so many cute things.It was hard,but I stayed within my budget and didnt buy much. Then this evening he took me out to dinner! I have had a lovely relaxing day.

The cake plate in the picture was purchased at Laurie Anna's Vintage Home. If you have never been to Canton, it is well worth the trip just to visit her shop. It is filled to the brim with so much cuteness that I find it hard to leave. She has so many delicious things to choose from. I wish I could bring her home with me to decorate my little home.

A Busy Week

I am so sorry it has been a couple of weeks since my last post. As many of you know I am taking 2 classes this semester as well as working my regular job. One of the classes I am taking is Statistics and it is kicking my rear! I have been spending all of my free time working on it. The instructor gives a huge amount of homework each and every class. So I am far behind on just about everything at home. Trying to catch up tonight on laundry and some other housework. Hope you have a great week, we are supposed to get some snow tomorrow! This is very unusual for North East Texas! We are excited. I hope it snows enough they will close the college!!! I am beginning to sound just like one of the kids...LOL I need a snow day too!

Happy Valentine Day!

Happy Valentine to my wonderful husband! He is such a doll. He surprised me this week with flowers at work. Then last night he took us out to a wonderful dinner. He invited my oldest daughter also, she is a florist and currently single. She makes the day special for all of her customers and he wanted to make sure she was included in the festivities. I thought that was such a wonderful thing for him to do. He is such a thoughtful person.

AND....Happy Birthday to my youngest son. He is 16 years old today! He is Valentine baby. Hope your day is filled with love and joy!

This is a photo of a book I am currently reading. If you are a true romantic, it is a must read. This is a historical novel about a very brave woman who lived in Texas in the early 1800's. I am reading it for my Goverment class. My aunt had this book and had told me many years ago how wonderful it was. But just have not had taken the time to read it. So glad that I am now getting the chance to enjoy it.

I am also reading Julia Child's cookbook. Tonight I will be cooking a roasted rump roast with vegetables and wine sauce. I cant wait to taste it. I love to cook and was so excited to get this book. It is such a classic and a must for any cook, beginner or advanced. Have a happy day and enjoy your loved ones. Jessica's Apple Pie

I finally had time today to make that cobbler I was telling you about in a previous post. we really liked it. I think you could use this just as pie. I made it in an oblong dish so I could stretch it a little to feed more folks.

Recipe:

6 Granny smith apples

1/4 cup sugar

2 tsp cinnamon

1 stick of butter

1 cup brown sugar

1 cup chopped pecans

2 eggs

1tbl vanilla

3tbl flour

Peel apples and place in a large pan, add remaining ingredients and cook until apples are soft.

While they are cooking, make your pie crust. You can use your regular recipe or 2 boxes of pie crust mix. Add some sugar to the pie crust while you are making it..Rub butter on the glass dish to prevent sticking and roll out the bottom layer. After you put the filling in it, you can cover it with a lattice crust if you like. I have some small apple and leave cookie cutters that I used to make the crust with. Bake at 350 degrees until bubbly and brown and then cover with powered sugar as soon as you take it out of oven.

Serve with ice cream.

I love it when it is cold outside and I can stay indoors. I have had the most delicious fire blazing all day. When my sweet husband came home, we decided to make some homemade loaded baked potato soup and hot cornbread! Yummy! I am warm and full and happy. Life is such a good place to be! When I stop to think about such things, I realize just how very blessed I am. I have such a wonderful husband, and great kids! Life is very rich when we look around and see all that God has done in our lives. Everyday we talk about how lucky we were to have found each other, even though it is late in life. Each day is extra special because of it.
Here is my recipe for my soup. Hope you enjoy making it.

Loaded Baked Potato Soup

Peel 6 potatoes and cut them into small size pieces. Put in large pot and boil until soft. Add salt and pepper to taste.
Add 1/2 stick of real butter
1/4 cup of flour or cornstarch
2 cups whole milk.
I always add the milk to starch and mix well with a whisk then pour into potatoes and water. This keeps it from clumping up.
I stir on low heat until thick and bubbly.

We fry several pieces of bacon and crumble
Shred sharp cheddar cheese
Chop green onion fine
Sour cream

When you serve, top with cheese, sour cream, chives and bacon. We love to eat cornbread with ours and I always use Jiffy cornbread mix, follow directions and add 1/4 cup of sugar. It think it tastes better with a little sweetness to it.

We woke up to a little frosting of snow this morning. It is so unusual to have weather this cold in our part of Texas. 3 Days ago, the weather was warm and sunny, this morning it is wet and very cold! I am trying to get a fire started with my wet wood! Sunday Drive

Today we decided to take off and visit one of our favorite little towns. Jefferson, Texas is one of the oldest towns in the state. I have some documentation recently given to me that my relatives arrived in Texas in 1860 via a steamboat in Jefferson port. We have loved this place for so many years, I have lost count. Most of the streets are still brick lined and it is just such a homey place. Reminds me of Mayberry! Donnie and I love to ride the motorcycle over on Sunday afternoons and just stroll through the antique shops, eat a great cornbread sandwich and enjoy the day.

The old time General store has a huge assortment of EVERYTHING! We stopped in today and bought some Burts Bees and a couple of funny cards. They have an old fashioned ice cream parlour with hand scooped ice cream. The fudge shop is just around the corner. We always have to stop in and buy some homemade peach amarreto fudge. It is just too good for words!

My youngest daughter LOVES this old truck. She wants one that is red! We ate at Auntie Skinners today. They serve the absolute best burger in the world! It is a hot spot for bikers and tourists who visit.

Jefferson is a wonderful little town with so many things to see! The Jefferson Hotel is downtown and reports to be haunted! I have never stayed there, but Kristy and her girlfriends spent a night a few years ago.

Well, dear friends I know I promised a recipe this weekend and I will get it posted. The day has just flown by and I havent even baked that apple pie yet. I had some homework to do tonight and have been busy as a bee cleaning house this weekend.

It's National Pie Day! What a great excuse to get busy in the kitchen and make a few yummy desserts. I love pie! It is my favorite dessert. I had rather have pie than cake or cookies. I have a new apple pie recipe that I will post this week for you. I am off to the grocery store to buy the ingredients today and plan to make it this weekend. A friend shared her version of this wonderful treat. I just cant wait to try it out! Have a happy Saturday.
