It's Pink Saturday!

Welcome to Pink Saturday! Hosted by the fabulous Beverly at http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog/

I found these wonderful pink kitchen appliances on Flickr. I absolutely love this vintage pink mixer!

Here is the modern pink Kitchen Aid mixer. Girls, if you do not own one, it is a must have item. I bought a red one last year and it has revolutionized my life! I really do not know how I have made it all these years without one.

I love the pink fridge! How cute is that! My Granny had a white one that was in this same style . Hmmm...wonder whatever happened to it.

Now this is just too cute for words. You know how I love little girl kitchen items well this would be just the ticket! I was just thinking about the differences between boys and girls. Ever realize that all of the toys we buy our little girls have to do with babies, kitchen and laundry. But the toys little boys get are trucks, boats, motorcycles. Know wonder they never grow up! Little girls are trained from the moment of birth to work, boys to play!

Hope you enjoy Pink Saturday, hop over and look at all of the pink wonders at Beverly's. Before you go, please scroll down. I just celebrated my 100th post and have a giveaway in the works. I would love for you to enter. Winner will be announced next Friday! Have a wonderful week!

This Is So Me!

Look at this great little English Cottage. I want it! Oh my goodness, this is so me! Wish I could see the inside. I can imagine the cute little kitchen with the white farm sink, the hand hooked rug in the parlour and the wrought iron bedstead with the hand stitched quilt. Lots of quaint charm in every little detail.

Hope you are having a wonderful week!

1950's Dream House

I had to laugh when I saw this house! About 2 miles up the road from me is this very house! The door is red with white trim. The only difference is the shutters. The house near me has wood shutters that have the same trim as the door. I have never really thought much about the house, but in this picture there is a certain charm to it. A Leave It To Beaver quality that I always find myself attracted to. And then I began to notice several neighborhoods with many houses from this era.

Little known fact: I really wanted nothing more in life than to be June Cleaver! I wanted the little white picket fence house, manicured yard, and to be a stay at home, pie baking mother. I wanted my children to come home from school to a kitchen filled with the smell of fresh baked cookies. And to know the security of not being left at home alone. Knowing that when they arrived home, love and happiness filled the house they lived in.

What were your dreams?

Sunday Dinner

I am in the kitchen again, creating a scrumptious Sunday meal for the kids! I found a huge roast on sale this week, so I am cooking it in my cast iron dutch oven, smothered in onions. I am making a batch of homemade rolls, mashed potatoes, mushroom gravy and homemade macaroni and cheese. All of my kids favorite comfort foods. I made a killer Pecan Pie, hopefully there will be enough left for everyone to have a piece. If you have not made my Texas pecan pie, you really should try it. Recipe is in the archives.

I am hoping to spend the afternoon, working on my next project. Friday ,I ripped all of the wallpaper and border off the walls in the entryway. I need to spackle the holes and roll on some texture, so I can paint. I have two colors that I am going to experiment with. The entry is very tiny so I do not want it really dark. But,of course you know I always gravitate towards red! I am thinking about painting the bottom half red and the top half a cream color. Then I will have to put some molding on the walls. This will require some carpentry skills, so that may take a bit of time to accomplish. I still have some decorating to do in the bedroom, but the finished project will be posted soon.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. I am not looking forward to going back to work on Monday. But it will go by fast I hope! This next week is Canton weekend and I am planning a trip there on Friday. My daughter is planning on going with me so I am sure it will be a great time. Have a wonderful Sunday afternoon!

Vintage Pink Saturday!

Happy Pink Saturday! Hosted by the lovely Beverly at http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog/

I just love all of the romantic fashions of the 1950's Women looked so put together in those days with the clutch purse and kid leather gloves.

Pink was a very popular color in the 1950's and early 1960's. Something of romance in every day life.

I really love the long gloves on this beauty. I have a pair, but never have worn them.

I am getting ready for Easter a little early. I found this wonderful old stuffed vintage looking rabbit with his pink and blue vest at Ross dept store.

Next week during my Pink Saturday post. I will be celebrating my 100th post. I am planning another giveaway, so please stop by for a quick visit! Have a great week.

Barefoot Contessa

Many posts ago, way before Christmas, I posted a blog on Ina's new cookbook Back to Basics. I had this on my list, on the fridge, on my bedside table. Well, Santa didn't bring it. Nor, did I get it for Valentine's Day. SO I just decided to go buy it for myself! And I am sooooo happy that I did. I love watching her television show and it is one that I usually tape while at work.
This cookbook is wonderful. She has sections covering everything from cocktails to how to set a table. There is also a chapter on what not to serve your guests, ideas on appetizers and desserts that you do not have to cook. Another chapter features ideas on flavoring your foods with herbs and spices. This is a simple book, using everyday foods. The layout is easy to follow and photos are wonderful!
I plan to spend some time this weekend poring over the new ideas and trying some out on my sweetie!

Friday Project

This is a bench I have had for many years and I currently use it at the foot of the bed. I haven't done anything with it since I bought the new bedspread. So my task today is to recover it to match the rest of the room.

I bought my favorite red toile at Hobby Lobby. It was 30% off the original price so I got the fabric for $6.

I took the screws out of the stool with my drill so that I could easily staple the new fabric to the cushion.

I trimmed the excess fabric around the edges. Placed the cushion back on the frame and screwed it back into place with my handy dandy screw gun.

Much Better! It made a big difference in the look. This project took me less than 30 minutes from beginning to end.

I am going to thrift shop. Have a great Friday. See you tomorrow for Pink Saturday!

Lorri

Sisters on The Fly

I thought I would show you some pictures of my first trailer. This is the Cosmo Cowgirl.

I bought her completely restored, so all I had to do was add decorating touches and take off!

I made new curtains, in brown and blue.

Added lots of cowgirl bling.

And took off on my camping trip with the sisters.

I loved this chenille cowboy bedspread.

Here is the little kitchen that was all original to the trailer.

Some of you have asked questions about the Sisters on the Fly. It is very simple to join up. All you have to do is go to the website http://www.sistersonthefly.com/ . There is so much information to read and pictures of trailers to look at. Download the application and mail it along with your dues to Maurrie and she will send you your membership package. There are well over 1000 sisters all over the US. And lots of camping trips in every single state, so it doesn't matter where you live there are sisters all around you. I bought my first trailer Cosmo from another sister who had several trailers. Her husband had already painted her and she was ready to go. The red Shasta I bought on eBay. I just have not had time to re-do Annie. Many of the girls have more than one trailer, and they are decorated in every type of decor you can think of. It does not have to be cowgirl. I love going and meeting up with these girls, we always have so much fun. They have a chat site and love to help new sisters in any way they can. If you have any other questions feel free to email me. I am always happy to help out a sister. One of the new fun things we are doing now is earning badges for our accomplishments. This is where it is a little like girl scouts! We can earn a badge for just about anything and they are fun to display. Many girls have sashes, pillows etc that they sew them on to. Some have made jackets or vests. This organization was created to give women a chance to be little girls again. Many of us love to fish, cook, camp, ride horses or just anything. Some just love to shop and we go to antique shows in a group. Everywhere we go people stop and love to look at the trailers. It is so much fun and I know you will love to join. You can also come as a visitor on a trip, just to get a feel for it. I also want to mention you do not have to own a trailer to join. Many girls do not have one. Some bunk up with other sisters or stay in cabins at the campsite. This is just about fun! And we do have lots of fun. Come on and take a look the website, I know you will love it.

Hugs,

Lorri

Summer Project

Here are a few pictures of my other decorating project. My Shasta trailer! I bought it last summer and have not had time to start on it since I got married. But I plan to get her back in shape so that we can take her out on the town. I use to own a 1960"s Scotty trailer that was fully restored. I sold her last spring. This trailer has alot of issues, but will look great when she is put back together.
She needs a new paint job and some white wall tires. I am putting new birch wood inside and black and white floor tiles. My son is rebuilding the little kitchen with just a microwave and refrigerator. I am taking the original stove and ice box out. I want to be able to use this trailer and it be more comfortable. My last trailer was so original that I would not tear out the old kitchen stuff and it was just alot of wasted space, but she went to a great gal and I know she is being loved well.

I am a member of Sisters on the Fly. A great group of women who travel, fish, camp and generally have a wonderful time. It is kind of like being a girl scout again only with a little wine to go with it! I have missed out on so many great trips this year, so have to get busy with my little project so I can go also!

My trailers name is Outlaw Annie. I am sister #752. Check out the website when you have time. http://www.sistersonthefly.com/.
Have a wonderful day. I am planning to some gardening this weekend. I will post some new pictures of a stool that I am recovering also.
Hugs,
Lorri

Monday Movies!

This weekend, we watched several movies together and this was one that I really enjoyed. If you have not watched Fireproof, you really need to rent a copy of it and watch with your spouse. I have seen two other movies that Alex Kendrick has written/produced/directed. Facing the Giants and Flywheel. All of his movies have a wonderful spiritual message and completely family oriented. Facing the Giants is such a great film for teens, it is about a football team that learns many lessons through having faith in the ability that God has given them. Fireproof is about a young married couple facing so many of the trials and temptations that we face in everyday life.

I love the phrase he uses in the movie."You NEVER leave your partner in a fire" When the going gets tough that is exactly what many couple choose to do. They walk out, divorce and think the grass is greener on the other side. It is not! Life is what we choose to make of it and so is marriage. We learn through the hard times what we are really made of. I think one of the most important things we should learn is that no ONE person can make you happy. We have to be happy with our self. Love yourself and then it is so easy to love your partner. We are to be a compliment to our spouse, a helper, a lover, a true soul mate. We sign a covenant when we marry not a contract. A covenant is for life! Through the good ,the bad ,and the ugly! We must pray for our spouse and lift them up, not ever demean and tear them down. Even when we do not feel like being nice. We must! Harsh words will last forever. Kind words soothe and calm a storm!

Have a wonderful week. I have two more days at work and then will enjoy being off for a few days. Hoping to make it to Canton Tx this weekend for Laurie Anna's Serendipity weekend! Sounds like so much fun!

Hugs,

Lorri

Shoes! Wonderful Shoes!

I had to buy some new shoes for work, so I popped into Dillards to look at the clearance rack. Just looked what I found! I love love love these red high heeled shoes. I have a new red jacket and white shell, so I am pairing these with some dark washed jeans.

Here they are on. Actually pretty comfortable. I love the brand Michelle D , they are easy to wear and really comfortable. They last a long time and the best part is that they were 70% off the original price. WOO HOO!
This pewter pair I will wear with grey slacks and a pink and black sweater. I think these are cuter in person. And of course, I did find some work shoes. Nike shocks. I am trying to save my feet. I have worn the last pair for almost a year and they are now relagated to yard work shoes. I am so bad about wearing the same shoes over and over. I have to stop that. It's not like I do not have shoes. I have a tons of them, but mostly dress shoes. My nurse shoes are probably the most important ones I should have and yet I put the least thought into them.
I have to decided to buy another pair in a month and trade out so my feet wont hurt so badly. 12 hour shifts just are killers, I guess you really cant understand unless you are in this profession, but you never sit down! Anyway, I am so happy that I got all 3 pair on sale. Ok, now I need to work some overtime!
LOL, have a great day.

An Amazing Life

This Valentine's Day was wonderful as all of them have been since I have met my husband. We ate dinner, listened to music, opened a bottle of wine and watched a movie. We talked and laughed, we shared memories of our past and dreamed of our future. Sometimes, when I first wake up in the morning, I have to pinch myself just to make sure this is real. I really do have a wonderful life. This is what I have dreamed of, prayed for, and waited my whole life for. Every day is better than the last. A quiet, wonderful life, one that flows like a stream and gets better with each passing moment.
I am taking time this morning to thank God for all of his amazing blessings he has poured out on my life this year!
For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Jeremiah 29:11
Have a very blessed Sunday!

Alice in Wonderland White Rabbit

I was browsing through some new blogs a few weeks ago and came across a very talented young lady named Jen at http://guineveresfolly.blogspot.com/. She creates some of the most wonderful items. I love Alice in Wonderland and instantly knew I had to have her version of White Rabbit. He arrived this past week and I am thrilled with him! Her attention to detail is just incredible, right down to his pocket watch.
Jen has created some other wonderful pieces and I hope you will visit her and take a look. She recently posted a gorgeous doll Marie Antoinette. She is lovely and on my wish list! Take some time this weekend and hop over for a visit. Leave her a comment and let her know you visited.
I will be here tomorrow for Pink Saturday. It should be fun! I am off to work in the flower shop today. Have a wonderful Friday.
